Blogging culture

Blogging is an excellent way to stay in touch with you peers and advance your self further within your field.

During AC 230 i had set up my own blogging account http://michaelbrown1985.wordpress.com/ where i can post views within my prospective career in physical education.

i hope people like my website i know the colors are crazy but i hope you like it.

i feel that blogging will help me stay in touch with people who are in my field and i would strongly suggest every body would do it

E Robot Complete

Hey this is the completion of my E Robot, This was a fun project and I believe that will be useful for me and others in the future.   Enjoy the video which was directed by my little brother ( I took one of my classmates advice and let him have some more fame lol ) but this is the E Robot, hope you like it 🙂

A roller coaster of emotions …

So before I took this class to be completely honest, I saw the schedule and I thought it would just be ok because five hours is enough to be on computers and then form some type of carpel tunnel syndrome afterwards. I liked the schedule because I only had class two days but that was a dream to me. LOL. Well little did I know, my entire mindset of the class would change from start to finish once I entered that computer lab.

So I gave the course a try at the first day and that same first day, I learned so much about tagging, about html brackets, about the true meaning behind a blog, and so much more. I felt like a butterfly that had been let out of a jar and definitely let out of my comfort zone because I am so lazy to learn anything about technology. I feel like the butterfly represents me in the fact that I have grown from a small cocoon in the beginning to semester until now the end of the semester. I have become a full-grown butterfly and I am able to spread my wings and use the useful information I have learned here and adapt it into my everyday life. You can say that because of this class I have become a “tech nerd” in some odd way. I actually enjoy going on my laptop for things other than Facebook and checking my AOL e-mail.

I also have a Macbook Air at home that me, myself wasn’t completely familiar with all the amenities it has including programs such as Photoshop, iPhoto, PhotoBooth, and the elusive digital HD camera. I learned how to make videos in video player and other programs and edit my ugly-looking saturday morning face in photoshop like the photographers to do the models to make them look extra skinny. LOL. I basically learned so much and I enjoyed the DS106 activity which opened up a new window of learning how to use the program Soundcloud which I have never used before and I am a happy and proud user of it. This digital voice recorder has helped me to  have fun and aid me in altering my voice and doing other funny things. Photoshop helped me to  basically change the imaging quality and fix things that I never even knew I could.

So now its the end of the semester and today is our maker faire to display our ideas for the future, etc. I feel so wonderful after a great four weeks of class and meeting some very interesting and great people who I will always keep ties with. I have learned that I can do anything I want, I just have to put my mind to it. Now that this course is over, I’m not going to lie, I will really miss it and look forward to coming to class and being happy and learning more and more. This is just the beginning.

The Finale!

So we did it!! We created our “Portable Heater” once again and we went through the steps from beginning to end in the video posted above.

Materials Used

  • Altoids Container
  • Sheet metal
  • Durable Hole Puncher
  • Tea Lights
  • Box/Book Matches
  • Heavy Duty Scissors
  • Marshmellows (To test out finished product)
  • Tiny Glass of water (To test out finished product)

This project started off with a few rough patches but we have prevailed and have actually created this actually maker 3-4 times each time going through the trail and error to see what worked best and what didn’t. We mastered the assignment and it works very well.

This heater can be used to roast Marshmellows, to warm up food, and small sums of water. We tried it with all of the above and it worked. It gets really HOT!! I hope you enjoyed our video and look forward to you trying it at the Makers Faire.

Reflections of AC230

As I’ve always said, this course was a great experience and actually a breath of fresh air. I was able  to throw on  my thinking cap and let my thoughts and ideas take over when it came to blogging and researching for each particular post. I came into this course with a open mind and praying that these 4 weeks wouldn’t be dull, boring or a drag. From the moment I stepped into the class and the professor outlined the course and what he expected from us, I already knew this wasn’t going to the typical course and I was super excited and enthused, which can be rare when it comes to higer education courses. The methods and material was more open and hands on, and fun at the same time.

The things that were most important to me with this course was definitely the creativity aspect. I LOVED the digital storytelling assignment, I learned how to create a montage and a Meme. I also LOVED the makers assignment and working along side of Reyawesome, because as future educators we will find ourselves working together. There were so many I wanted to try and I’m sure that I will in the near future. This course definitely has me preparing for my debut as a Educator and the many things I would like to incorporate into my curriculm. I can’t really say that I thought anything was of least importance because I was able to benefit from every assignment and post. I’ve even shared them with with friends and family and they called me their “sexy nerd” and asked “What aren’t you good at ?!?” I just laughed because I really enjoy what I do and I put effort and passion into every assignment.

I’ve also created my own blog page called “Rants and Raves of Eve” I look forward to anyone who would like to follow and keep up with by blogs. Page is still underconstruction but it will be tweaked over time. I would like to thank Professor Smith for the wonderful experience and wish the rest of my classmates the best of luck in their future endeavors!

The final cut

Final Cut of our maker project

Through many trails, our maker project just kept getting better and better. The different versions all unique, working and improved. I had the best time with this maker project because although it was at first difficult, I really feel that our team mastered it. Not only that but the maker project has inspired me to go on with maker culture. I have embraced this path of spontaneity and exploration so much that I’m working on quite a few things after this course. I’ve actually started a new blog of my own using wordpress and I am pleased to say that I am a maker and that I will be working on my hovercraft project still also my amplifier.

Best technology class I’ve ever taken! WHOO HOO for the REBELS!
